MINIMAL ISSUES TO ME· McCain's four-time re-occurrence of skin cancer is NOT a big issue to me. See http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/09/us/politics/09mccain.html?_r=2&pagewanted=2&oref=slogin o Doctors say that McCain's skin cancer is unlikely to return. Per http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90781894 o McCain has released far more of his medical records than most candidates. Per CNN "Fit To Lead" special, Oct. 12, 2008. (need online citation) o Obama has not released any of his medical records. (Nor have Biden or Palin.) Obama is a long-time smoker but gave it up to run for president, and chews Nicorette gum. He has fallen off of the wagon a few times. All Obama released was a one-page summary of his health from his doctor. Per CNN "Fit To Lead" special, Oct. 12, 2008. (need online citation) · McCain's being described as allegedly having a "hot temper" is NOT an big issue to me. o NOTE: I had placed this under "Reasons to vote AGAINST McCain" but decided to reclassify it in light of the following research. o Chris Mathews on his MSNBC Hardball program dismisses McCain's alleged temper. Per http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdZfjP8DbAU o Some other senators say he has a temper & several have apology letters from him. (Per something I saw on a TV news program) (need citation here) o McCain said of himself in Jan 2008, I'm "the sheriff", not Miss Congeniality, about pork bills. Per http://www.ontheissues.org/john_mccain.htm o Mark Salter, a top aide for Sen. John McCain said "McCain's temper is no greater than the average person's and that I personally know 20 or 25 Senators with much worse tempers. He argues, sometimes heatedly, with his peers, but he doesn't hold grudges or pick on people subordinate to him." Per http://www.washtimes.com/weblogs/joe-curl/2008/Apr/21/sour-salter/ o A TV ad shows a former POW, Phillip Butler, saying McCain is "not cut out to be President". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLWEDMLmjKk This 4 minute video seems heavily biased and unfairly characterizes McCain (per my opinion). Butler says that "… the prisoner of war experience is not a good prerequisite for president of the United States." and "…I was there [as a POW] 2-1/2 years before he [McCain] was. … John has allowed, I think, the media to make him out to be the [emphasis on "the"] POW, the hero, and the fact [that] there were over 600 just like him who performed just as well.". Then he talks about how POWs have health problems compared to non-POWs, and that "it's imperative that we have someone who is healthy and can stand the rigors of that job." All-in-all, I think this commercial will only help McCain. (Per my opinion) The TV version I saw was very short & only talked about McCain's temperament. o I searched the web for something about McCain's bad temper and got a lot of YouTube.com hits, so I looked at several of them.
